Trustees of the Masonic Hall and Asylum Fund

The "Trustees of the Masonic Hall and Asylum Fund" in its corporate capacity is vested with the title to the real estate of the Fraternity in this jurisdiction and empowered to build and maintain a Masonic Hall in the City of New York, and out of the funds derived from the rent or income thereof, or other sources, to build an asylum or asylums, a home or homes, a school or schools, for the free education of the children of Masons, and for the relief, support and care of worthy and indigent Masons, their wives, widows and orphans.

The Trustees are responsible for maintaining one of the most beautiful fraternal buildings in the United States, which includes operating and repair costs and capital improvements.

The Old '76 House is one America's oldest taverns. Built in 1668 it served as a meeting place, as well a tavern. During the Revolutionary War, President George Washington, who made his headquarters in Tappan had Major Andre, who was a British spy, imprisoned in the Old '76 House, then called Mabie's Inn.

A special charge of the Trustees is to provide educational support to widows and orphans of worthy New York State Masons. Over the last decade, this has become know as the Educational Assistance Program which provides educational assistance to full-time college students that are the children, grandchildren, wife, or widows of New York State Master Masons.

The Trustees fund the program in the amount of $500,000 per year and determine the selection criteria. To insure accurate and unbiased outcomes, all applications are rated by an out-of-state professional rating agency.
